La Boussole Medical Spa & Wellness Center Now Offering Lymphatic Drainage Massages

29 October 2025

La Boussole is proud to share that one of our talented massage therapists, Elizabeth Banwart, LMT, CMT, CLT, has earned her certification in Manual Lymph Drainage (Vodder Technique) and Complete Decongestive Therapy from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies.

A Commitment To Massage Therapy Excellence

We are incredibly proud of Elizabeth’s dedication to this advanced education in lymphedema management and client care. Her latest certification allows La Boussole to offer an elevated level of support for clients recovering from surgery, managing chronic conditions, or seeking overall wellness and balance.

"After my own cancer treatments, I have benefited greatly from lymphatic treatments,” said Elizabeth. “It inspired me to become a licensed massage therapist so that I could offer this kind of healing therapy to others.”

More About Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, highly specialized technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system and help remove excess fluid, waste products, and toxins from the body.

Benefits of MLD include:

  • Reduced swelling and inflammation
  • Improved circulation and detoxification
  • Enhanced immune function
  • Deep relaxation and stress relief

MLD can also support post-surgical recovery—it may be started as early as 4–6 hours after hip or knee replacement to aid healing and reduce discomfort.

Everyone has a lymphatic system—and  everyone can benefit from supporting it.

Lymphedema Awareness

MLD and Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) are also used to help manage lymphedema, a condition in which protein-rich fluid accumulates beneath the skin.

In the United States, breast cancer is the most common cause of lymphedema:

  • 1 in 8 women and 1 in 100 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Of those who receive treatment, 10–40% may develop lymphedema within one year, and 50–75% within five years post-op.

While lymphedema has no cure, it can be managed effectively with Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), which includes:

  1. Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
  2. Compression Therapy
  3. Skin Care
  4. Exercise Education

Common Symptoms of Lymphedema

  • Swelling in the arms, legs, face, neck, or trunk
  • A feeling of heaviness or tightness in the skin
  • Difficulty fitting into clothing or jewelry on one side of the body
